Top 3 Mountain Bike Helmets 2017

NO 1 – Troy Lee Designs A2 Helmet MIPS SRAM

The all-new for 2017-A2 helmet redefines mountain bike safety, style, comfort, and ventilation. The first helmet in its class to combine EPP (for slow speed impacts) and EPS (for high-speed impacts) in one sleek package, that will set a new benchmark for mountain bike helmets.

PATENTED BRAIN PROTECTION SYSTEM  NEW FOR 2017

MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System, it is a revolutionary technology that lets the helmet slide relative to the head, adding more protection against rotational violence to the brain caused by angled impacts.

The A1 was an excellent helmet and still is and the A2 took everything the A1 had and made it better! The A1’s standout feature was the fit, not too snug but not too roomy either. Thankfully the A2 followed the A1 in that respect. The A2 looks like a more aggressive version of the A1 but don’t let that fool you, you certainly know that it’s a totally different helmet once on the trails. The new vent configuration makes it that the air flow is amazing! Truly an all around helmet!

NO 2 – Giro Chronicle MIPS

When your trail rides include technical descents and challenging climbs, the Chronicle™ MIPS provides all the essential performance and protection you need in an affordable

package. It drafts off the design language of our premium Montaro™ MIPS helmet and offers many of our key features. Its compact shape provides deep, confident coverage, and the Roc Loc ® 5 fit system allows you to easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. The Chronicle MIPS is designed for goggle compatibility, and the P.O.V. Plus™ visor allows you to lift the visor and place your goggles on the front of the helmet. The Coolmax padding has great wicking properties, and it’s extra plush to provide all-day comfort on the trail. The helmet was designed with MIPS, which redirects impact energy to provide more protection in certain impacts.

NO 3 – Bell Super 3R MIPS Helmet

The best trail riding gear adapts to changing terrain. That’s the idea behind the Super 3R mountain bike helmet. It’s designed for the varying demands of all-mountain riding, which includes long, grinder climbs at low speeds and wide-open descents on rowdy trails. A removable chin bar makes the Super 3R uniquely suited to the all-mountain experience. Basically, you get two MTB helmets in one. For long climbs, remove the chin bar and stow it in your pack. And when it’s time for more aggressive riding, you can quickly lock it on, no tools required. For the new Super 3R, we’ve added the new Float Fit system and dramatically improved the fit and comfort by revising the shape both inside and out. Other trail-specific features include our GoggleGuide Adjustable Visor, a breakaway camera mount, and Overbrow Ventilation. Not to mention MIPS rotational impact system for added protection in certain impacts.

So there you have it, our top 3 choices for 2017.5!  Click on the helmet images for more technical information.
